Nurse's Corner

Hi Red Pine Families!

We were hit hard with the Influenza before break.  Unfortunately, it does not mean we are past the flu season.  Influenza B was the main virus.  The flu has many different strains so it is not too late for the flu shot.

Here is a message from the Center for Disease Control:

The 2019-2020 flu season is underway for most of the country. However, some parts of the country are still seeing lower levels of flu activity.
Activity is being cause mostly by influenza B/Vicotria viruses, which is unusual for this time of year.  H1N1 viruses are the next most common, followed by H3N2 viruses, which are decreasing in proportion.
The flu season is just getting started; elevated flu activity is expected to continue for weeks.  It's not too late to get vaccinated.  Flu vaccination is the best way to reduce the risk from flu and its potentially serious complications.

It may be possible that Influenza A or another strain will become prevalent.  Influenza season can go into May.
As always, remind your children to wash hands after sneezing, coughing, blowing their nose.  If they have a fever of 100 or over, we recommend they stay home until it is below this without Tylenol or Ibuprofen.  You know your kids best, and if they cannot make it through a day of school in a learning mode they may need to rest and get well.  Vomiting and diarrhea have the same recommendations, 24 hours free of either/both before returning to school so they can participate in class.

Good Luck – Stay Healthy.

Coke Rewards
We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This opens up Red Pine to new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students.

The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply enter the product codes here: and our school receives a donation.

Do you know of any company that would allow a box to be set up to collect Coca-Cola caps? We can get a box all set up and will drop off and pick up the caps! (there is a collection box in the entry area of the school as well)

Please contact Ashlie Brown at if interested.
