National Walk and Bike to School Day Next Wednesday!
Wednesday, October 2nd is National Walk and Bike to School Day. To promote Health, Fitness and Wellness we are encouraging everyone to walk or bike to school. We realize that it is NOT possible for everyone to walk or bike to school because of distance, busy streets, family commitments, etc.
If you are unable to participate during the morning commute please encourage your child/children to do something during the day. As in the past, we will have the buses drop students off as they pull in to the parking lot so those students can walk the long side walk around. Something that has been a HIT in the past is walking school buses. Groups of families choose a meeting place and walk/bike together. We hope to see many of you walking and biking to school on Wednesday October 2nd for National Walk and Bike to School Day! Any questions, please contact Mr. Kotasek at mike.kotasek@district196.org
T-Shirt to Diaper Service Project In Fifth Grade
The fifth graders are collecting large, adult t-shirts this month. The t-shirts can be new or used, with colors and words on them or plain white. At the end of the month, the fifth graders will cut them into large pieces which will be sewn into cloth diapers by a group in Burnsville. The sleeves will be saved and sewn into baby hats by that same group. These items will then be sent to places in need of them. Last year, some diapers and baby hats went to Haiti, and others stayed in MN and were given to parents in need of them. The collars and bottom hems will be braided by the kids and donated to Last Hope, a pet rescue agency.
If you have large or XL adult t-shirts that you would like to donate, please have them delivered to Kate Stoe’s room in the 5thgrade area. (room 113) They can be new or gently used, and they can have words and patterns on them.
Contact Kate Stoe with any questions. Kate.stoe@district196.org

Levy Referendum By the Numbers:
An informational flyer about the District 196 levy referendum is being sent home in your child’s Friday Folder this week. The flyer uses key numbers to tell the story of why the district is asking for a levy referendum increase and what the additional funding would provide. There is also information on how to vote, which began September 20 via absentee balloting and continues through Election Day Tuesday, November 5, 2019. This is an important choice for our school district community. Please be informed and vote. For more information about the levy and how to vote, go to the Levy Referendum Website.
